SAGER NP7850 Gaming Laptop Review 2024
With the price of $1199, the Sager NP7850 gaming laptop is a companion gaming laptop to its sister gaming laptop. In this Sager NP7850 laptop review, we analyze the main ability and disability of this gaming laptop and find out why it’s a great choice for gaming and content creation.
One of the main advantages of Sager notebooks is the availability of different configuration options. It also offers a sizable amount of expansion slots you won’t find on some mainstream gaming laptops.
Decent design
The design of the Sager NP7850 is the least visually appealing in the gaming world. It leans more towards simplicity and robustness, making it more durable and portable. The visual design of Clevo laptops is kind of a matter of marmite.
Some users may find the design simple, functional design attractive, meaning that it can be used in multiple environments without raising an eyebrow. Others may find it a bit monotonous and uninspiring.
If you take a closer look at the exterior of this laptop, you’ll find a macro color full-size keyboard with a very nice glow effect and the trackpad is off-center with two physical buttons.
There is still a 2.0M FHD webcam on the front panel above the 15.6 IPS panel. However, the bezels around the display are too thick for our taste.
On the left side of the laptop are a USB 3.1 port, HDMI, SD card slot, Ethernet, AC power, and a mini display port. On the right side are one headphone and microphone jack, one USB 2.0 port, and one USB 3.0 port. The twin air vents are just behind the hinges.
Easy access to the interior of the Sager NP7850 gaming laptop. You will only need to remove a few screws. Inside, there are expansion slots, including an M.2 slot for additional SSD storage, in case you want more storage.
IPS display
The reviewed Sager NP7850 gaming laptop comes with a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS display with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels 60Hz (anti-glare). This is a pretty decent display that comes with all the perks of IPS display technology, such as wide viewing angles, rich colors, deep contrast, and excellent brightness levels. The screen is not touch-supported.
Powerful gaming performance
The graphics card is one of the most important components of any gaming laptop. The Sager NP7850 is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 16GB of GDDR5 RAM that helps the laptop to reach AAA high-resolution gaming category games for open-world games like GTA5 and Fortnite.
This is a very capable chip made with a certain type of gamer for the open-minded world gamer. The Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor is a great companion for this GPU.
To experience the gaming section you can run two AAA titles such as GTA 5 and The Witcher 3 (60 fps). However, games like Dirt Rally at (65 fps).
Incredible Storage
When it comes to the storge the Sager comes with a 512GB NVMe SSD/1TB (5400rpm) HDD. We used a crystal disk to check the sequential read and write speeds of SSD and HDD. For an SSD that registered speeds of up to 1800Mbps read and 1600Mbps write, the results were quite impressive.
Customizable backlit keyboard
As mentioned earlier in this review, the Sager NP7850 has a customizable macro-color backlit gaming keyboard with a number pad. You can customize the light and color effects of individual keys to suit your taste. It’s a great keyboard for gaming. The tactile feel of the keys is impressive, and key movement and spacing are decent. The trackpad on the Sager NP7850 is responsive but mediocre.
Audio
Audio from this laptop is delivered through the Sound Blaster Cinema 3 audio platform. This means you can enjoy immersive gaming with real 3D audio output. However, some things never change, so don’t expect great audio performance from the built-in speakers. If you need location audio for gaming, you’ll need to purchase gaming headphones or external 5.1-channel speakers.
Variety of ports
This laptop offers a variety of ports that a gaming laptop needs. We especially like the fact that it provides both USB Type-A and C ports, so all current and future devices can easily interface with the Sager.
It comes with a 6-in-1 card reader and has one HDMI output port with HDCP, one Mini DisplayPort 1.3 output port, and one Mini DisplayPort 1.2 output port for external displays. Up to 3 additional external displays!
Other ports:
1 USB 2.0 port, 1 USB 3.0 port (Type A), 2 USB 3.1 ports (1 Type A and 1 Type C), 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack, RJ-45 LAN 1 (10/100/ 1000Mbps)
Connection options
For connectivity, the Sager NP7850 comes with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 + Bluetooth adapter and a Gigabit Ethernet port capable of 10/100/1000Mbps data transfer rates.
Average battery
The batteries are decently sized and as a result, give moderate results. It comes with a long-lasting battery life of a 6-cell 62WHr battery pack, giving you 5 hours of light web browsing and up to 3 hours of gaming.
